Hartfield replaces Dendy in U.S. long jump for Rio

INDIANAPOLIS -- Michael Hartfield (Manchester, Connecticut) has replaced Marquis Dendy (Middletown, Delaware) on the 2016 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Team in the men's long jump, USATF announced Friday. Dendy, the 2016 World Indoor gold medalist, has withdrawn from the Rio-bound Olympic team with an injury to his lower right leg.

Hartfield finished fifth at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene with a mark of 8.39m/27-6.50 and is eligible for the team because he reached his qualifying mark (8.34m/27-4.50) for the Games in Guadeloupe earlier this year. Hartfield is ranked fourth in the U.S. and sixth in the world in 2016. He trains in Chula Vista, California at the Olympic Training Center under USATF High Performance coach Al Joyner.

The men’s long jump begins on Friday, August 12 in Rio.
