John Nunn is becoming well known around the track and field world for his cookies. A hobby that has turned into a small business, Nunn proclaims on his website that each cookie is “made with 200 percent love.”
At least 100 percent of that commitment comes from Nunn’s daughter, 9-year-old Ella, who the company is named after and who holds the final say on which cookies are good enough to sell by their company, “Ella’s Cookie Co.: Decadent Cookies by Daddy and Daughter”. Not surprisingly, her favorite cookie is called the “Ella”. You can find more about Nunn's cookie company here.
When Team USA arrived in Linz, Austria, for training camp in preparation of the IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Moscow, Russia, Nunn came prepared. Showing up with the ingredients in hand, he baked cookies for the entire team, which proved to be a big hit.
In 2012, Nunn made an appearance on The Today Show to give a race walking demonstration along with Maria Michta preceding the London Olympic Games, where he competed in the 50 km race walk. He didn’t show up that morning short-handed either and brought cookies for the entire staff.
On Wednesday, Nunn will look to focus his attention away from baking and onto the roads where he will represent Team USA in the grueling 50 km race walk where he has moved his way to the top of the American rankings in the event.
