INDIANAPOLIS - Kasie Enman has been named USA Track & Field’s Athlete of the Week after winning the 27th World Mountain Running Championships Sunday in Tirana, Albania.
Enman (Huntington, Vt.) became the first senior U.S. woman to win an individual gold medal at the race, helping Team USA to an overall fourth-place finish. She recorded a time of 40 minutes, 39 seconds over the 8.59 kilometer course.
It was also the first appearance for Enman in the World Mountain Running Championships. She qualified for the event after winning the 2011 USA Mountain Running Championships June 26 in North Conway, N.H.
She was also part of a clean-sweep for Team USA for individual World Mountain Running titles, as Max King (Bend, Ore.) won the men’s competition Sunday.
Now in its tenth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
