DeAnna Price’s American record hammer throw earns Athlete of the Week honors

DeAnna Price (Moscow Mills, Missouri) set an American record in the women’s hammer throw at the Iron Wood Throws Classic in Coeur d’Alene Idaho to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.


The Rio Olympian broke the 77m barrier twice at the Iron Wood Throws Classic to top Gwen Berry’s American record of 76.77m/251-10.5 by nearly a meter with a toss of 77.65m/254-9. Her pending AR ranks fifth on the world all-time list and leads the 2018 world hammer throw list by 1.39m.  

 

Other notable performances this weekend:

 

Anna Hall -- Valor Christian High School junior Anna Hall crushed  the U.S. high school heptathlon record by more than 200 points with a 5,798 total at the Great Southwest Classic. The previous record of 5,578 was set by 2016 Olympian and NCAA champion, Kendell Williams, at the 2012 U20 Championships.


Ronnie Baker --  Baker topped Christian Coleman in a 100m rematch for the second time in less than a week at the Diamond League’s Rome Golden Gala. His wind-legal time of 9.93 established a 0.04 world lead over Jaylen Bacon’s 9.97.


Jenny Simpson -- Simpson won the women’s mile at the FBK games in Hengelo, Netherlands. The Rio Olympic bronze medalist finished with a time of 4:25.71 to establish a world lead.


Caitlin Collier -- Bolles High School senior Caitlin Collier held her own in an elite 800m field, running an impressive 2:00.85, the fastest time by a U.S. U20 runner this year, at the Music City Distance Carnival. Her time ranks fourth on the all-time high school girls 800m list.


Maria Michta-Coffey -- En route to her 40th USATF national title, American record holder Michta-Coffey clocked a time of 45:45.62 to win the women’s USATF 10k Race Walk Championship.

 

Now in its 17th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on USATF.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
