Day Two Morning Session Recap - IAAF World Junior Championships

EUGENE -- Team USA has five more athletes advancing to semis or finals after the morning session of IAAF World Junior Championships at Hayward Field on cold and rainy Wednesday.
 
With his final jump in his qualifying round, Travonn White (Phoenix, Arizona) jumped 7.25 before completing his best jump of 7.5/24-7.25 to finish second in his group and fifth in qualifying. White will compete in the finals Thursday.
                                   
The decathlon continued with the 110-meter hurdles, where Harrison Williams (Memphis, Tennessee) ran in lane 3 of the first heat in a steady second place throughout the race.  Williams finished in 14.37 for a personal best. Gabe Moore (Freeport, Florida), also set a personal best in the event, leading in the fourth heat and finishing first in 14.82. Decathletes completed the monring with discus as Moore’s second attempt, 45.09, was his best and Williams tossed 35.09 also on a second attempt.
 
At the conclusion of the morning session and after seven events, Moore has 5,650 points and Williams has 5,524.
 
Kendall Baisden (Austin, Texas) of Texas set the tone for Americans in the opening heat of women's 400m, qualifying for the semis with her first-place finish in 53.28. Olivia Baker (South Orange, New Jersey) also led her heat, finishing in 54.09 to automatically qualify for the semis.
 
In the heptathlon, Ashlee Moore (Chandler, Arizona) started the day strong, winning her group of the long jump with a personal best 5.86 (-0.8)/19-2.75. Moore sits at 4,138 heading into the sixth event, javelin, which is now underway.
                                   
In the men’s 400m hurdles, TJ Holmes (St. Petersburg, Florida) of Baylor continued the top U.S. placements when he crossed in 52.03. USA men’s team captain Kenny Selmon (Mableton, Georgia) finished in 52.15.
