SACRAMENTO, California -- High school phenom Tara Davis double dipped Friday in an impressive show of speed, winning both the junior women’s long jump and 100m hurdles to highlight the second day of the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships Friday at Hornet Stadium.

Davis (Agoura, California) started her day with the women’s long jump, only needing one jump to win the event with a mark of 6.63m/21-9 before heading over to warm up for the prelims of the women’s 100m hurdles. Davis cruised to a top qualifying time of 12.95 before dipping at the line to beat out youngster Tia Jones (Marietta, Georgia), 13.01-13.02.

On the men’s side, long jumper Ja’Mari Ward (Cahokia, Illinois) defended his title with a best jump of 7.81m/25-7.5.

Arizona State University’s Samantha Noennig (Hartford, Wisconsin) toppled shot put high school record holder Alyssa Wilson’s (Jackson, New Jersey) win streak with her throw of 16.78m/55-0.75. Wilson finished second with a best distance of 16.23m/53-3, and went on to win the hammer throw with 56.68m/185-11. Men’s winner Jordan Geist (Cabot, Pennsylvania) claimed the national title with a dominating 21.14m/69-4.25 throw, surging ahead of Adrian Piperi (Spring, Texas) who’d held the lead for the first five throws.

Baylor freshman Maxwell Willis (Upper Marlboro, Maryland) captured the junior men’s 100m in 10.26, echoing performances that earned him Big 12 Freshman of the Year. Women’s 100m winner Candace Hill (Conyers, Georgia) swept both the first heat and final to make her second World U20 Championships team. Hill clocked in at 11.37 to second place finisher Symone Mason’s (Miami, Florida) 11.42.

Tierra Crockwell (Calabasas, California) closed out the women’s heptathlon with a solid 725 points, as did Pieter Top (Wilsonville, Oregon) in the men’s decathlon with 769 points for the win.
