Davila finished fifth, crossing the line in 2:29:15 to finish in her return to the marathon. Berlin marked Davila’s comeback from an injury that has plagued her since 2012. She finished second in the Olympic Trials in 2012 at Houston, but did not finish at the Games in London due to an injury that was later diagnosed as a femoral stress fracture.
Earlier this year, Davila was second at the USATF Half-Marathon Championships in Duluth, Minn.. She said going into the Berlin race that the course was “flat and forgiving” and conducive to a good return from injury.
Now in its 12th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on www.usatf.org
. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
