Curtis Beach named USATF Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS -- Multi-eventer Curtis Beach earns USATF Athlete of the Week honors after being crowned the 2016 USATF Indoor Combined Events champion, scoring 6,075 points in heptathlon at the two-day event in Crete, Nebraska, Feb. 26-27.
Beach (Albuquerque, New Mexico) emerged as the Day 1 leader with 3,270 points after recording the top effort in the long jump (7.42m/24-04.25) Friday. His Saturday performance opened with the fastest 60-meter hurdle time in the field at 8.07, and his meet concluded with a 1,000m in 2:37.66.
Other top performers of the week include the following:
Barbara Nwaba (Los Angeles) is the USATF Indoor Combined Events Champion in pentathlon after combining wins in high jump (1.83m/6-0) and 800 meters (2:15.85) for a points total of 4,415.
Ryan Crouser (Boring, Oregon) of the University of Texas tied the collegiate indoor record in the shot put with a 21.73m/71-3.5 to win the Big 12 title.
Felicia Brown (Lithonia, Georgia) of the University of Tennessee ran a world-leading 22.45 in the 200m to win the SEC title and move to No. 3 on the all-time U.S. indoor list, and No. 11 on the world all-time indoor list.
Now in its 15th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
