Courtney Frerichs sets new American steeplechase record to win Athlete of the Week

7/25/2018

Courtney Frerichs (Nixa, Missouri) claimed a new American record in the steeplechase at the Monaco Diamond League meet, clocking in at 9:00.85.

Frerichs led the American contingent in the international field, shaving off three seconds from her personal best to cross the finish line in 9:00.85. Frerichs was second only to newly-crowned world record holder Chepkoech of Kenya. Her time bested World Champion Emma Coburn’s previous American record of 9:02:58.

Other Notable Performances:

While competing in Heusden, Belgium, Shelby Houlihan (Sioux City, Iowa) captured a new American record (pending) in the 5,000m. She clocked a time of 14:34.45, beating her personal record by over 20 seconds and the previous American record by over four.

Sprinting a time of 12.36, Keni Harrison (Clayton, North Carolina) snagged the title of world leader in the 100m hurdles. Harrison, the current world record holder, was able to narrowly beat the world leading time to record the fastest hurdle race so far this year.

While competing in Monaco, Noah Lyles (Clermont, Florida) recorded a personal best of 19.65 in the 200m. In addition to winning the event - now his fourth Diamond League win this season - he beat his own world-leading time and set a new meet record.

Gigi Collaran (Attleboro, Massachusetts) competed in the 800m at the North Attleboro Kids Day competition. Collaran, in the girls’ 10-11 division, completed the race in a time of 3:12. She was the overall winner of the event, beating all competitors regardless of gender or age, including athletes up to 16 years old.

James Randon (Osterville, Massachusetts) emerged victorious after competing in the Cape Cod 5K Championships. Randon, 24, ran a 5.01 pace and completed the race in 15:34.00. He beat the runner up by 15 seconds.
