Courtney Frerichs breaks American steeplechase record at Monaco Diamond League

Courtney Frerichs (Nixa, Missouri) set a new American record at the Diamond League meet in Monaco in 9:00.85 - bettering her previous PR of 9:03.77, which she ran in a spectacular 1-2 finish for Team USATF at the 2017 IAAF World Championships to claim silver.

In Monaco, the 2016 Olympian led the charge for U.S. athletes in a world record-breaking race and was only bested by Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech, who set a new WR of 8:44.32. Courtney’s time improves upon previous AR holder and reigning World Champion Emma Coburn’s (Crested Butte, Colorado) 9:02.58. Coburn finished fourth in Monaco in a season’s best 9:05.06.

“It shows Worlds wasn’t a fluke or anything,” Frerichs said in an IAAF interview of her and Emma’s performances. “We’re here and we’re just going to keep getting better.” Click here for the full post-race video.

In addition to Courtney’s outstanding performance, fellow Americans Christian Taylor, Noah Lyles, Ryan Crouser and Queen Harrison won their respective events. Click here for complete results.
