TACOMA, Washington -- Sweeping Day Two of USATF Club Championships was Central Park Track Club as both men and women earned 204 points for a combined 408-point total on the final day of competition at Mt Tahoma High School on Saturday, July 12.
Central Park cruised to the title as they outpaced second place Club Northwest by 43 points in the women’s, 46 in the men’s, and 89 in the combined. Levi Keller (Seattle, Washington) of Club Northwest won the men’s Most Valuable Athlete award while Central Park Track Club’s Heather Miller (Woodbury, Minnesota) took home the women’s.
In the men’s 110-meter hurdles, Gerkenz Senesca (Roselle, New Jersey) of Shore Athletic Club ran 14.17 to hold off Mossua Dembele (Bronx, New York) of Central Park in at 14.34 for the crown. In the women’s 400mH, Ashley Karnick (Ferndale, Michigan) of M M Track Club and Ruth Waller (Boulder, Colorado) of Denver Track Club ran a tight race before Karnick edged out Waller, 1:08.45 to 1:08.56. Waller would come back to win the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:29.50.
Outstanding performances also shined in field events. In the women’s long jump, Toni Smith (San Diego, California) of Chula Vista Elite leaped 6.08m/19-11.5 against a 1 mph headwind. In men’s high jump, Dakarai Hightower (Tacoma, Washington) of Flying Aj’s Track Club was the only man to jump over two meters with a 2.24m/7-4.25 leap as he won the crown by 0.27m/0-10.5.
