Camille Herron’s 100-mile WR earns her USATF Athlete of the Week


Camille Herron (Warr Acres, Oklahoma) shattered the women’s world record in the 100-mile run Saturday at Vienna, Illinois, to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.


Herron, 35, knocked more than an hour off the previous record with her 12:42:40 at the Tunnel Hill 100-Miler, and she won the overall race title by more than 22 minutes. Earlier this year, Herron won the Comrades Marathon in South Africa, and she is a two-time International Association of Ultrarunners world champion. Full results are here.

Other notable performances:

  • Nikki Hiltz — Hiltz won the individual 6K title in 19:35.5 and led her Arkansas women’s team to a seventh straight NCAA South Central regional title.

  • Jon Davis — Only the third University of Illinois runner ever to win a regional men’s cross country title, Davis covered 10K in 29:07 to capture the NCAA Midwest gold.

  • Jonathan Green — A Georgetown senior, Green won the NCAA Mid-Atlantic men’s regional title with a 30:29 for 10K.

  • Camille Noe — Noe’s 17:13.5 for 5K set a course record and won her the Nike Cross Northwest Regional in Idaho, and she also led her Bozeman squad to the team title.

Now in its 16th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
