“It is with a heavy heart, yet a content mind, that I announce my retirement from my beloved sport, track & field. For the last 15+ years I have given this sport my blood, sweat and tears. In return, I received the chance of a lifetime: to travel the world, compete in fan-filled stadiums, inspire countless numbers of aspiring athletes, and magnificent memories that I will treasure forever.

I’d like to thank God for blessing me with such an amazing talent that has not only saved my life, but has also opened up many doors for me. I thank Nike and USATF for supporting me every step of the way throughout my entire career.

To my coaches, Jesse Holt and George Williams, none of this would’ve been possible without the both of you. I’d like to thank my three children, Shawnti, Shari and BJ, for being patient and understanding any time I had to be away from them due to my profession.

Thank you to my family and friends who have been in my corner since the very beginning. Your never-ending love and support is greatly appreciated.

Last but certainly not least, to my many fans and supporters all around the world, I thank you all with my entire heart. Through the many ups and downs throughout my career, you guys have been nothing short of amazing.

Know that this isn’t the end, but just the beginning of a brand new chapter in the life and legacy of myself, Bershawn ‘Batman’ Jackson.”
