Americans take top honors in Beijing

Returning to the site of the 2008 Olympic Games, the Americans came out on top in Beijing with seven wins and one world lead at the fifth stop of the IAAF World Challenge on Tuesday.

David Oliver lead the way for the Americans as he ran to a world-leading time of 13.16 in the men’s 110m hurdles. Oliver ran two-hundredths of a second faster than when he won bronze on the same track in 2008. Dwight Thomas of Jamaica, Oliver’s training partner finished second crossing the line in 13.44, while 2011 World Champion Jason Richardson was third in 13.48.

Justin Gatlin picked up his third straight win in the 100m and his second time to dip under 10 seconds as he crossed the line in 9.91. LaShawn Merritt also continued his streak of wins in the 200 as he won in 20.40.

Allyson Felix won her first 200m race of the year in 22.36 to take the third spot on the 2013 world list. It was an American sweep of the podium as LaShauntea Moore took second in 22.85, and Ebony Floyd was third in 23.19.

Olympic bronze medalist Kellie Wells won the women’s hurdles in 12.87, with fellow American Ginnie Crawford taking second in 13.03. Tori Polk won her first international meet of the year in the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.58m/21-7.25.
