Action continues in Lisle at USATF National Youth Outdoor Championships


LISLE, Illinois -- The second day of USATF National Youth Outdoor Championships continued with multi events, race walk and the first set of relays at Benedictine University.

The men’s 17-18 decathlon concluded with Isaiah Martin (Barnhart, Missouri) of Jets Track Club taking the top spot with 6341 points. Martin, who won three of today’s five events, also led the points standings after Day 1.

In the girls’ 15-16 heptathlon, the final 800m event was a sight to behold. Pacific Coast Shockwaves’ Kalea Brown (Chino, California) held on to a substantial lead, finishing over 10 seconds ahead of second place in 2:31.48. Brown went on to win the heptathlon with 3497 points. Mahlia Jules (Rancho Palos Verdes, California), also of Pacific Shockwaves, won the girls’ 9-10 triathlon with 863 points following a dominating 200m run.

Jets Track Club teammates Arianna Butler (Desoto, Missouri) and Taya Allen (Festus, Missouri) took home gold and silver in the women’s 17-18 heptathlon with 3888 and 3820 points, respectively.

Dustin Fillmore (Noblesville, Indiana) won the boys’ 11-12 pentathlon with 2189 points after steep competition from second and third place finishers Ajani Rush (Glenwood, Illinois) and JaKai Hayes (Columbus, Ohio).  

Race walk champion Nayeli Cisneros (Elgin, Illinois) almost lapped the field to finish the women’s 17-18 3000m race walk in 15:26.38. Cisneros also won the event at last year’s Junior Olympics.

The 4x800m relays closed Day 2 of competition, highlighted by Pacific Shockwaves ‘A’’s win in the boys’ 13-14 with a time of 8:58.03.
