The fourth day of World Masters Indoors saw Americans highlighting in throws, jumps, middle distances and sprints.
(Lakewood Ranch, Fla.), 55, won silver in weight throw with his mark of 17.93m, while Rita Hanscom
(San Diego, Calif.), 59, just missed the podium, taking fourth in W55 long jump with her mark of 4.09m.
Outstanding 800m performances included gold medal finishes from M45 Nicholas Berra
(Enola, Pa.) who clocked in at 1:59.36. Jean Daprano
(Fayetteville, Ga.), 77, finished in 39.01 and Charmaine Roberts
(Beltsville, Md.), 46, crossed in 2:26.6. Sidney Howard
(Plainfield, N.J.), 75, took second with his time of 2:53.29 as Coreen Steinbach
(Pompey, N.Y.), 63, also came away with silver with her time of 2:46.72.
In the 200m final, Charles Allie
(Pittsburgh, Pa.), 66, finished each qualifying heat faster than the previous, improving to 25.44 for gold in the final.
(Houston, Texas), 63, won the 200m with his time of 24.7, and Joy Upshaw’s
(Lafayette, Calif.) 26.73 was good for gold in the W50 division.
On the third day of competition at World Masters Indoors in Budapest, Myrle Mensey
(St. Louis, Mo.), 65, threw the hammer 37.08m for second place. Stefan Petersson
(Frisco, Texas), 47, took first in the M45 javelin throw with a mark of 62.46, and U.S. runners led qualifying prelims and semifinal heats.
(Pittsburgh, Pa.) 66, led the M65 200m dash prelims with his time of 26.06, and he increased his speed in the semis, finishing in 25.55. Bill Collins
(Houston, Texas), 63, won the prelims of M60, finishing in 25.35 before improving to 24.89 in the semis. James Chin
(Del Mar, Calif.) qualified for M55 200m dash finals when he finished second with a time of 25.34.
(Fayetteville, Ga.) success continued on day three as she won the W75 200m prelims, making her finish in 41.03. Joy Upshaw
(Lafayette, Calif.), 53, shined in the semis as well, finishing in 26.75. Antwon Dussett
(Peoria, Ill.), 35, took first in semifinal competition, finishing in 22.12.
In long distance events, Coreen Steinbach
(Pompey, N.Y.), 62, was the shining American performance as she finished third with her time of 12:20.48 in the 3,000m.
(Surprise, Ariz.), 38, earned second at the W35 high jump, where she cleared 1.55m and the next next closest competitor by .06m. Guest missed gold by that same .06 margin. Marilyn Coleman
(Franklin Park, N.J.), 39, took third in the W35 weight throw with her mark of 15.35.
On the second day of World Masters Indoors action, Robert Arello
(Lakewood Ranch, Fla) won the M55 shot put with his mark of 14.79m, defeating the the next closest competitor’s toss of 13.17m. Kenneth Hoffman’s
high jump of 1.96m in the M40 division earned second place at just .3 meters shy of the victor.
In the 800m prelims for M60, Nolan Shaheed
(Pasadena, Calif.) finished first with his time of 2:21.49, a near two seconds ahead of his closest competition. Jeff Lindsay (Tulsa, Okla.) finished third in the M55 semis with a time of 2.16.78.
In W75, 60m dash action, Jean Daprano
(Fayetteville, Ga.) finished third with her time of 11.80, while Bill Collins
took first in the event for M63 runners with his time of 7.54.
In the 50 m dash, Joy Upshaw
(Lafayette, Calif.), 53, took fourth with her finish of 8.31 as she just narrowly missed the podium by .05 seconds. Brandi Benert
(Denver, Colo.), 35, won the 60m dash title with her time of 7.75.
On the opening day of World Masters Indoors Championships at SYMA in Budapest, American W55 competitor Rita Hanscom
(San Diego, Calif.), 59, finished first in the 60-meter hurdles and second in the 800m, earning silver overall in women's pentathlon with 4,023 points.
(Surprise, Ariz.), 38, also finished second women’s pentathlon with her 3,523 points total in the W35 division.
In 60m dash prelims, Bill Collins
(Houston, Texas), 63, and Brandi Bernert
(Denver, Colo.), 35, finished first in their heats, crossing in 7.72 and 7.83 respectively. Charles Allie
(Pittsburgh, Pa.), 66, finished second in th M65 prelims with his time of 8.22.
