2018 YOG Frequently Asked Questions

1.     Youth Olympic Games Team be announced?

The Youth Olympic Games Team will be announced on or before August 10,

2018.

2.     What are the dates of the 2018 Youth Olympic Games?

The dates of the 2018 YOG is October 6-18, 2018

3.     What do I need to do to participate in the 2018 YOG?
  •  Athlete must be a national of the United States at the time of nomination and hold a valid U.S. passport that will not expire for six months after the conclusion of the Games.
  • To be eligible to participate in the YOG, athletes must have been born between 1 January 2001 and 31 December 2002 and therefore must be age 16 or 17 (born 2001 or 2002) on December 31, 2018 to be eligible for nomination. Date of birth verification (birth certificate, driver’s license and passport) must be presented during the entry process of the 2018 Americas Youth Olympic Trials – Track & Field.
  • Athletes must have successfully completed all Games Registration requirements by stated deadline.
  • Athlete must be eligible to represent the U.S. in international competition based on the competition rules of USA Track & Field (http://www.usatf.org/About/Competition- Rules.aspx ) and the IAAF (http://www.iaaf.org/about- iaaf/documents/rules-regulations ).
  • Athlete must present a copy of his/her passport to the USATF National Office no later than June 1, 2018.
  • Athletes must be a USA Track & Field (USATF) member in good standing at the time of the 2018 Americas Youth Olympic Trials– Track & Field in Costa Rica to be eligible to compete. All expenses related to participating at the 2018 Americas Youth Olympic Trials – Track & Field in Costa Rica will be at the expense of the athlete.
  • Nominated athletes are required to sign a USA Track & Field Statement of Conditions for participation.
 
4.     What is the date and location of a Trials event?

The location of the 2018 YOG Trials is Costa Rica. The date of the 2018 YOG

is TBD

5.     Is there a Trials in the US?

There will be no Trials contested in the US.

6.     Does winning a Trials event guarantee selection to the Youth

Olympic Games Team?


No.

7.     How many US athletes will be named to the 2018 Youth Olympic

Games Team?


The Selection Committee can nominate up to 10 athletes with but there are

no guareteed spots on the team.
 
8.     Will USATF offer any financial assistant to the Trials event?

There will be no financial assistance offered from USATF. All expenses

related to participating will be at the expense of the athlete.

9.     When will nomination of US athletes to the Youth Olympic games

team be announced?


The Nomination of Athletes form, including replacements, will be announced

to all athletes and submitted to the USOC on or before:

August 10, 2018

10.  When will athletes be notified of their selection to the Americas

Youth Olympic Team?


Athletes selected to the team will be notified within 5 days of the NACAC-

Consudatle Selection Committee’s decision and need to declare their intent to

participate in the 2018 Youth Olympic Games to be held October 1 - October

6, 2018 no later than 5:00 PM EST 1 day after receiving notification from

USATF that they have been selected to the YOG Team.

11.  Will USATF offer any financial assistance to athletes who make the

Youth Olympic Team?


There will be no financial assistance offered from USATF.

12.  How will participation on the Youth Olympic Games automatically

qualify athletes for any USATF National Competitions?


The YOG does not automatically qualify athletes for other USATF National

Competitions.

13.  Are there other international competition opportunities for athletes

born in 2001 and 2002?


Yes, World Indoor Champions.
