Forys, Finn win NACAC Cross Country Titles
Team USA picked up two individual titles from Craig Forys and Erin Finn, while the senior men’s team won the team title at the NACAC Cross Country Championships in Jamaica on Saturday.
Craig Forys won the senior men’s 8 km race in dramatic fashion as he outkicked Canada’s Cam Levins by one second to cross the line first in 24:46.
Forys led the way for Team USA’s men to take first place in the team scoring as he was followed closely by his brother Matthew Forys (4th, 25:16), Phillip Reid (6th, 25:21), Joseph Moore (7th, 25:25) and Zachary Ripley (13th, 26:21). Team USA recorded 18 points, with Canada second with 22 points.
Erin Finn ran away from the field in the junior women’s 4 km race to finish nine seconds faster than her closest competitor as she cross the line in 14:09. Team USA took second in the team standings with 21 points, as Canada claimed the top spot with 17 points.
Estevan De La Rosa was the top U.S. finisher in the junior men’s 6 km as he took second in 19:13 Team USA finished second in the team standings with 35 points, as Canada finished first with 31 points.
Mary Kate Champagne finished fourth in the senior women’s 6 km race as Team USA’s top finisher in 21:48. The U.S. women finished second as a team with 26 points, with Canada taking first with 18 points.
