Registration is now closed for the July 2019 Youth XC Camp in CO Springs

 


The USATF Youth Cross Country Camp is scheduled for July 1-4, 2019 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado.
 
The camp is a three-day instructional Learn-By-Doing camp that is open to all youth athletes between the ages of 13 and 18, regardless of Cross Country experience and skill level. The camp content and curriculum are designed and developed by some of the most recognized authorities on coaching and youth athletic development in the sport. All instructors are endorsed by USATF.
 
Training will focus on skills, agility, mental attitude, strategy and knowledge that are critical to an effective training program with the ultimate goal of improved performance. Particular focus will be on training at high altitudes. The equipment and facilities at the Olympic Training Center will enhance this experience. The facility is equipped with a high-altitude training center that allows athletes to train at different climate and altitude conditions.

2019 USATF YOUTH CROSS COUNTRY DAY CAMP

Additional Camp Information

  1. Arrival: All campers (Day & Overnight) and any accompanying parents/guardians should report to the Peter Ueberroth Athlete Center at the Training Center on July 1[AM1] [RD2] , 2019 between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. for on-site registration and distribution of materials, with camper orientation to follow.

  2. Departure: Camp will officially end on Thursday, July 4 with a full day of training followed by an evening closing reception that campers’ families are welcome to join.

  • Day campers may leave at the end of the reception only when accompanied by their parents/guardians.

  • Overnight campers flying out of Colorado Springs or Denver will remain at the Training Center until Friday morning (July 5) when USATF Staff, Coaches and Campers will depart before 10:00 a.m. to connect with their scheduled flights.

Overnight Camper & Airport Transportation:

Airline Reservations: Once your athlete is registered for camp, parents should contact USATF Camp Manager, Bob Dominguez (see contact information below).  Bob will provide an information request form that should be completed and returned to USATF’s Travel Coordinator, who will make airline reservations for ALL persons traveling to Colorado for camp. Parents/guardians will provide USATF with credit card payment information for airline reservations via telephone contact with the USATF Travel Coordinator.  
Arrivals: USATF will provide transportation to the Training Center for athletes flying into Denver International Airport on Monday, July 1, 2019.
Departures: USATF will provide transportation to the Colorado Springs and Denver airports on Friday, July 5, 2019.
Unaccompanied Minors: Age for unaccompanied minors varies by airline. USATF’s travel coordinator will determine when making reservations if your child will be traveling as unaccompanied minor and what additional costs are involved.
 
All unaccompanied minors arriving at either airport will be met at the gate by a USATF staff member. Similarly, all unaccompanied minors departing from either airport will be escorted to their gate where USATF Staff will remain until the aircraft is in flight.

What to Expect at Camp

  1. This is the third USATF Camp that will be held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. A few things we’ve heard from past USATF campers:

  1. On each of our three (3) training days, we will wake up at 6:30 a.m. and provide a light breakfast snack before the first of our two-a-day training runs at 7:30 a.m. After morning training, campers will return for a full breakfast, followed by a combination of classroom series and physical training activities, Lunch Break, more classroom activities and an afternoon training run. The day will conclude with downtime, Dinner, “The Final Lap” (end of day recap), free time, quiet time in rooms, and lights out at 10:30 p.m.

  1. Campers will be given tours of the United States Air Force Academy and the breathtaking Garden of the Gods. At each location, we will also incorporate training runs.

What to Bring

  • Light running shorts and tops

  • If possible, 2 pairs of running shoes (rock/gravel, turf surfaces)
