During her high school career Rebecca Alexander established herself as the most dominant sprinter in Louisiana's Class 4A. After sweeping state titles in the 100 meters, 200m and 400m meters at the states 2008 Class 4A Outdoor State Championships. She wrapped up her high school career as a three-time all-state and all-metro selection as a senior in 2008. Prior to attending LSU, Alexander emerged as one of the top sprinters in the National Junior College Athletics Association while at Southwest Mississippi Community College, where she earned a trio of All-America honors as a freshman in 2009. In 2012 Alexander wrapped up her collegiate career as one of the elite 400m runners in the history of the Lady Tiger program, ranking No. 7 indoors and No. 4 outdoors on LSU's all-time 400m performance list. Alexander captured her first NCAA title in the 4x100m relay outdoors in 2011. In 2012, she added two more championships to her resume, claiming gold in the NCAA Indoor 4x400-meter relay championship and the SEC Indoor 400m championship. Alexander was also the NCAA Outdoor silver medalist in the 400m in her final collegiate appearance with the Lady Tigers. She ran the third leg on the relay team that won the NCAA Outdoor silver medal in 2012 with the third-fastest time (3:24.59) in collegiate history. Following her senior season Alexander lowered her personal record to 51.13 in winning the 400m gold for the United States at the North American, Central American and Caribbean Under-23 Championships.
