About Queen
Queen Quedith Harrison grew up with a father who had her rise with her siblings before school to do jumping jacks, pushup, sit-ups and run. Harrison has said of her name, “When your dad names you Queen, you’re kind of expected to be great in whatever you put your mind to.” Harrison was indeed great as she qualified for the 2008 Olympics as the youngest member of the team at only 19-years-old. Harrison finished seventh in the semifinal of the Olympic Games and became the first athlete from the Virginia Tech track and field program to compete in the Olympics. Harrison also won the 2010 NCAA Outdoor 100m and 400m hurdles to become the first woman to win both NCAA titles in the same year. After her standout year that also included winning the NCAA Indoor 60m hurdles as well, Harrison was named the recipient of the Bowerman award which is given annually to the top collegiate track and field athlete.
