About Joe
A veteran of the decathlon, in 2010 Detmer established the world record in the double decathlon with a score of 14,571 over the 20-event competition. That year Detmer recorded a third place finish at the USA Outdoor Championships when he ran a 4:06.63 in the 1,500-meters for the fastest time in the field by 33 seconds. Detmer has become a regular member of Team USA for the Thorpe Cup, which is an annual multi-event competition between the United States and Germany, where he has picked up a pair of runner-up finishes and won the event title in 2010. He also formerly held the world record in the indoor heptathlon 1,000 meters. Born and raised in Wisconsin, Detmer competed for the Wisconsin Badgers, winning a pair of Big Ten titles and received a degree in computer engineering.
