Faced with the chace to qualify for his first Olympic Games, Solinsky was forced to miss the track and field season in 2012 due to healing from a torn hamstring and hip problems. The former American record holder in the 10,000m, Solinsky's second-place finish at the 2011 USA Outdoor Championships secured a spot on his second World Outdoor Championships team. At the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., on May 2, 2010, Solinsky competed in the 10,000m for the first time in his career. Solinsky won the race in a stunning 26:59.60, which set the American record at that time. With his performance, which was the second-fastest in the world in 2010, Solinsky became the first non-African to break the 27-minute barrier. With his fifth-place finish in the 5,000m at the 2010 Diamond League meet in Stockholm, Solinsky posted a personal best at 5,000m of 12:55.53, which was the second-fastest time by an American that season. Solinsky qualified for his inaugural trip to a World Outdoor Championships with his runner-up finish in the 5,000 meters at the 2009 USA Outdoor Championships. A five-time NCAA champion, Solinsky enjoyed a banner season in 2007 when he set personal bests in the 1,500m, 3,000m and 5,000m and won the 5,000m gold medal at the Pan American Games. He won NCAA Division I cross country state titles as a sophomore, junior and senior. Solinsky was also the 2002 Foot Locker Cross Country champion. He won the state title in the 1,600 meters as both a junior and senior. Other SPASH graduates include Olympians Suzy Hamilton and Curt Clausen.
