About Mark
One of the top pole vaulters in the country, Mark Hollis grabbed a spot on his first World Outdoor Championships team in 2011. His pole vaulting career took off after his high-profile wins at 2010 USA Outdoors and 103rd Millrose Games. In April 2008 Hollis set personal bests at three consecutive meets. In his senior year of high school, he wasn’t the average pole vaulter as he was only 5 foot 8 inches tall and 150 pounds. By his junior year at Olivet Nazarene, he had grown to be 6-1, 185 pounds and had become much stronger as a result of time in the weight room. Not only does Hollis participate in pole vaulting, he coaches it as well. He coaches at Elkhart Memorial High School and is a volunteer coach at the University of Notre Dame, the same place he trains. Hollis also volunteers regularly for the Salvation Army in Elkhart, Ind. He married his wife Amanda in July 2009, who also serves as his coach. The vaulter graduated from Olivet Nazarene in 2007 with a degree in Sports Management.
