McKaig has enjoyed success on both the track and roads. As a collegiate runner she won the 2008 NAIA Indoor Championship 5,000m and then followed that performance up with an encore national championship at the 2008 NAIA Outdoor Championships in the 10,000. After graduation she has began competing in marathons but has remained successful at the shorter distances. In 2010, she ran a personal best time of 2:37:39 in the New York City Marathon to earn herself a 20th place finish overall.
