Associate Director of Sports Science and Medicine
Dr. Robert Chapman joined USA Track & Field as the associate director of sports science and medicine in June of 2010. He works as part of the high performance team administering sports science and medicine programs. A large part of his role requires Chapman to be on the road running scientific testing programs for elite athletes.
Chapman is also a faculty member at Indiana University in Bloomington where his research centers on altitude training strategies and limitations to elite athlete performances. He also served as Indiana University men’s cross country coach from 1998 until 2007.
A native of Boulder City, Nev., Chapman earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas in 1991. He earned a master’s degree in exercise physiology in 1992 and a Ph.D. in human performance in 1996 both from Indiana University.
Chapman lives in Bloomington with his wife, Susan, and son, Benjamin. In their spare time their family enjoys travelling, running half marathons and snow shoeing.
