Director of Events and Retail Operations
Jim Estes was named USA Track & Field director of events in September of 2012 where he oversees the awarding of USATF championship events and execution of USATF-owned properties.
Estes was promoted from his role as USATF associate director of marketing and long distance running programs where he served since 2005. He oversaw the successful uniting of the 2012 Olympic Team Trials Marathon for men and women and was a key liaison between USATF, the USOC and local organizers for the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore. Before arriving at USATF Estes was a running specialty retailer and road race director.
Estes earned a bachelor’s degree in sports administration from the University of Louisville in 1993.
He lives in Louisville, Ken., with his wife, Camille. The couple has one daughter, Lyndsey, and one son, Nick. Estes became hooked on the sport of track and field when he watched Frank Shorter attempt to win his second Olympic marathon gold medal in 1976.
