Jill M. Geer oversees USATF’s integrated marketing and communications department, with primary responsibility for growing USATF’s sponsorship family and guiding sponsor recruitment, partner relations, communications, marketing and branding strategy. She serves as the organization’s spokesperson and adviser to the CEO and Board of Directors.
A USATF communications executive since 2000, Geer assumed her larger role in sponsorship and business development in 2012. Since that time, USATF has signed eight new partnership agreements, including new relationships with Hershey, Neustar and Subway.
Geer joined USATF in 2000 as director of communications and was among the first to introduce electronic news distribution in the U.S. Olympic and national governing body family. In nine years in that role, she was featured in PR Week for her work and nearly tripled the size of the USATF communications department, broadening its reach from a small number of print reporters to thousands of media worldwide.
Geer came to the USATF staff as director of communications in 2000 from Knight Ridder/Tribune in Washington, D.C., where she was an editor on the national news wire and a sports columnist. Her work at KRT appeared in the New York Daily News, Orlando Sentinel and other publications around the country. Her journalism experience in the 1990s included working as an award-winning sports writer covering Olympic and women’s sports. She served as a production assistant for NBC at the 1996 Olympic Trials and Olympic Games and 1999 World Outdoor Championships.
An NCAA scholarship athlete in track and cross country, Geer earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in U.S. intellectual history from the University of Arkansas, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude.
